Some Words on Soul Music

Soul is still a truly popular music genre which grew out of fifties rhythm and blues. There were two truly diffined record labels which dominated this era, Stax and Tamala Motown.
The record label Stax started life in Memphis in 1959, founded by Jim Stewart and Estelle Axton. Around the same time Berry Gordy has been creating the two record labels, Tamla and Motown in Detroit. Stax and Tamla Motown became the biggest of rivals for record sales throughout the 1960’s and 70’s. Their music idiom has been the same, with a focus on the Black music form soul, but marketing and style differed meaningfully.
Motown took the music market by storm at a time when white audiencess were ignoring a lot of black music forms. Their success has been attributed to their light soul style with their image being aimed at the middle class market. Producing hits such as ‘Stop! In the name of love’ by the Supremes, released in 1965, and ‘Heard it through the grapevine’ by Marvin Gaye, released in 1968. musicians such as the Supremes, the Four Tops and Marvin Gaye developed a clean-cut image, appearing on record sleeves and in shows wearing formal clothes such as tuxedos and evening dresses.
Stax records concentrated more on the original form of Black American Southern soul. For Stax records the original music form has been more important than image and marketing. musicians and songs included ‘In the midnight hour’ by Wilson Pickett, released in 1965, and ‘Sittin’ on the dock of the bay’ by Otis Redding, released in 1968.
Soul music has stayed one of the most popular music styles right through into the 21st century mainly due to the truly reason in the title, the music gets into your ‘soul’. A nice choice for both young and old!

Music, Culture, and Reality

A psychoactive is defined as that which has a profound or meaningful affect on the mental processes. Although typically used in the context of drugs and substances, this concept is generally extended to anything evoking a seemingly ‘mystical experience.’ What people describe as mystical experiences are indistinguishable, neuro intelligently and empirically, from deep and poignant religious experiences. Moments of oneness and insight are typical in both cases. In “The Varieties of Religious Experience (1902),” William James describes mystical experiences as ineffable, noetic, passive (rather, a sense of loss of control), and fleeting. From the remote mystics of Sufism and Kabbalah, to modern day ‘urban shamans,’ psychonauts have sought methods other than imbibement to investigate the cosmos within. Through meditation, breath control, lucid dreaming, sensory deprivation, and a host of other methods, music has stood among cultures in this service could since early man 1st danced around campfires.
Ethnomusicolgist Gilbert Rouget explores the connection betwixt music and trance throughout history. Perhaps music is more than simply a mortal construct, rather having cosmic significance. Playing music (and truly appreciating music) forces an individual to focus on the present moment, which in turn is the cornerstone of meaningful experience. This emphasis on the present moment is the consummation of all other psychonautical resources (mediation, entheogens, etc.). Subscribers of the shamanic and mystical generally view the passage of time as an illusion of the human mind, and regard a ‘perpetual now’ as true reality. Interestingly this is where science begins to align with the esoteric.
Quantum Mechanics argues that particles move backwards as well as forwards in time and appear in all possible places at once. String theory proposes that the physical world is composed of little, tiny strings of vibrating energy (It seems appropriate to allude to chordophones). Terrence McKenna, recounting a DMT (Dimethyltryptamine) induced experience, asserts that the constant dance of ‘machine elves,’ (entities occupying a parallel world) creates reality as  we  perceive it. Are the rhythms of music akin to the language of reality? Is music a method of staying in contact with the underlying ‘Logos,’ being the true virtue in which all things exist? Whether it be Spring’s hymn of birds and bees or the elegant, geometrical dance of our physical world, music plays the universal tongue in a reality seemingly ripe with babbling discord.

Listening to Music – How Do You Do It?

In the world of music, there are unlimited possibilities for creativity in production. But when it comes to sitting down and listening to your preferred musicians, what is the perfect way to do it? Most people do not contemplate it, but throughout the course of this article, you will gain possible life-changing strategies to listen to your preferred music. There are 3 main methods for listening to music; perceptive listening, casual listening, and background listening. Each method will be outlined, and rewards will furthermore be discussed. Now is the time to experiment with all of the ways you could listen to your music!
When in the state of perceptive listening, you’re fully aware of your music; that is the lyrics, rhythm, all of the instruments and components of the track. This state can be difficult to achieve if you’ve never been a perceptive listener before. It is the most rewarding listening experience, obvious ing our mind of everything but the pure sound of music.  we  cannot achieve this state If the re are other thoughts racing through our head; your mind must be completely blank, letting the music take you away. How do you know when you’re in a perceptive listening state? You will become unaware of your environment (closing your eyes is strongly recommended), focusing on nothing in your life but the music going through your head. Your mood will be directed by the type of music you’re listening to, and some will experience a state of Euphoria. When in perceptive listening mode, always aim to be in a Euphoric state, as it will make the music that much more enjoyable. This could lead to becoming more relaxed, having less stress, and an overall improvement in life. If you have not given perceptive listening a try, do it right after you finish this article. What have you got to lose?
We spend a lot of time in the Casual listening mode, which is the line right betwixt Perceptive and Background listening. You are fully aware of the lyrics/rhythm, and auditory elements are comprehended.  we  are generally performing some task that distracts us from the full perceptive state, so euphoria can’t be experienced. When listening casually, our mind only donates part of its attention to the music, so only part of us is affected while listening. Our mood does vary along with the music, but it’s generally a weaker feeling than perceptive listening. While  we  listen to music casually for a long period of time, our subconscious processes the information, and songs have a tendency to get stuck in our heads. Unfortunately, you can’t be fully immersed in the music, and that takes away a key element of enjoyment. Since  we  spend so much time casually listening to music,  we  think this is the most involving method of listening. Practice perceptive listening, and you will see the vast difference.
At times,  we  have so a lot of mind-numbing tasks to do, hitting the play button is the only way to keep our sanity. This is called background listening, and it helps us get through our c hall enging days. Casual listening is truly common among teenagers who study for tests, and generally people who listen to music while working with their minds. This is when  we  are in the weakest state of music perception, and auditory elements aren’t generally comprehended. You could get so caught up in a task that you forget any music is playing. Because our mind is focused on so a lot of things, our mood will be least affected by music. Obviously, this isn’t how music has been intended to be listened to. So what rewards does this bring? Lets look at Johnny: Johnny is studying for his math test, and he is really struggling on a concept. He puts on his headphones on low volume background listening to help him relax, and suddenly he is able to comprehend his math problems. On the day of the test, he could actually play back the song in his head, then his subconscious will recall his studying, and that helps him recall the important math concept s. Johnny gets an A on his test….So you see where this is going; background listening affects the subconscious mind, which leads us to the  final point. Memory. As shown in Johnny’s case, memory can be better by listening to music in the background. So what are you for? Listen to more background music, elevate your memory!
Perceptive Listening, Casual Listening, and Background Listening. Each one has its pros and cons. When possible, try all 3 techniques, and see which one you like the most. If you have not experienced the thrill of perceptive listening, you’ve to try it soon. If you have not relaxed to some casual listening, you could want to give it a shot. Some people, however, aren’t able to have music in the background while working. You know who you are. Give these techniques a shot, you never know what kind of amazing improvements could come about in your life. It is the little things that could make a large difference. Rediscover your music, rediscover the way you listen to it!

Alan Cohen author of, ” Chicken Soup For The Soul,” and other inspirational books said that in his work, “Lifestyles Of The Rich In Spirit.”
A prominent political figure from a Muslin nation visited one our University recently to speak and answer questions, and I watched the president of that institution challenge him and attack him verbally. There has been no peace in the words he used to describe his guest, he had his mind made up that this man represented the enemy and a war of words has been in order. It has been obvious to anyone that this man and his country were works of the devil and it has been our duty to eliminate him 1st by dehumanizing him, and then by threats of war.
The guest answered the questions as perfect he could ; he knew that the majority of the audiences would not accept his words, but he tried to explain his country’s position on several topics that struck fear in the hearts of Americans; but our thoughts had already established that this man has been someone to hate. He on the other hand, stood his ground firmly and explained his position as obvious ly as he could given the atmosphere of feelings that surrounded him. He did not claim to hate or want to destroy us, he said he wanted to be our friend; he said that his religion has been a peaceful one and that his country wanted to live by their beliefs in the absence of interference from other nations. He saw the conflict in Iraq as a senseless attempt to control something that has been not under our control; it had been in existence for centuries before  we  were born as a country and always found a way to resolve its own issues. In the mist of all the anger and resentment he found himself in, he maintain his composure and expressed his feelings about how  we  had created the situations  we  found ourselves involved in, and that  we  were the ones that are forcing other nations to conform unconditionally.
The real issue isn’t about this man and his country; it’s about each one of us. As Alan said,  we  must find the peace in our hearts in order to repair our separation. If  we  are motivated by fear, anger, and hatred, that is what  we  will manifest; the face of this man has been that manifestation.
We do not practice what  we  preach in church each Sunday,  we  do not follow the teachings of Christ if  we  attack and fight in order to control. Destroying never brings repair ing, but forgiveness does. Through all the years of fighting  we  still do not get the concept of unity;  we  still put ourselves up on a higher plane of existence;  we  are disconnected from our source and do nothing but fight in order to reconnect; years of conditioning has made us what  we  are, a group of wanderers looking for redemption in all the wrong ways. It is us against everything else, when in fact there is nothing else; what  we  see is a mirror, there for us to remember who  we  really are.
Alan said something else in his book, ” The most meaningful contribution you and I could make toward world peace is to be peaceful ourselves, to give peacefulness to those whose lives  we  touch daily, and to forgive ourselves for our errors, to the point at which  we  love ourselves no matter what  we  have ever done.”
Now is the time for that forgiveness; now is the time to reunite within myself, to be the spirit that expresses the love that fills my heart. I could vary and will vary in order to be at peace; I ask for help from my source and it’s given; I ask for love to fill my body and it’s given; I ask to share that love with all life and it’s given.

Around the pubs and clubs in the United Kingdom there are still a lot of bands playing for only several pounds to demanding audiencess who at the same time request Chuck Berry and the Arctic Monkeys. Keeping all these divergent people in the audiences happy is never easy, but not impossible either. With nice stage craft and clever of songs at a specific Club, a nice performer could make anyone happy.
The organization of these bands is extraordinary. They must find like minded musicians that are committed. Then they must find somewhere to practice. This isn’t easy as most can’t do this at home. If you’re fortunate to have a house large enough, it’s un like ly you could get round the neighbours, as it’s so loud! It can’t be turned down as everything must be as loud as the drums. A performer generally hires a room to practice, at excellent fee to themselves.
A performer must furthermore spend literally thousands on equipment. PA, lighting, guitars, drums etc.
The next hurdle is transport. For some reason most drummers can’t drive! Cars are generally inadequate as you would need a fleet of about 5 for your gig, truly expensive on the fuel, and impractical. Most bands have to hire or buy a van, again at excellent fee to themselves.
When they have finally rehearsed all there material over weeks or months, they are ready to play live. It is an exciting day, one of wonder, excitement and slight fear. You turn up to the Club to find one man and his dog. And that man is truly drunk, wants to be your manager, and giving you all the benefit of his ‘wisdom’ in the music game! The landlord is furthermore drunk, and you can’t work out if he likes you or not.
You get poorly paid, if you get paid at all, and return home generally out of pocket.
Nonetheless the real rock heroes come back for more. They find the perfect Club s, gain a reputation, and play at some excellent places. Sure they still have bad shows, but the nice ones make up for it. They make it look so easy, but it isn’t. One such performer can be seen at http://www.thehalfmonty.tk
The Half Monty have had there share of ups and downs. They have been ripped of at shows, played in the most dodgy Club s, and heckled to death. But they are still here, bigger and better than ever having learnt from their early days.
So remember, when you see a local/regional performer advertised at a pub or club, go see them and help them. It isn’t easy for the lads and lasses. Perhaps buy them a beer after the gig if you really enjoyed it. , for these are the true heroes of rock.

Relaxation Music – Loosen Up And Let Go!

Relaxation Music could comfort the soul if you let it in. Relaxation Music could only be thoroughly enjoyed if you loosen up and let go. Although relaxation music will help you relax, you need to really enjoy the moment to appreciate the experience.
When you loosen up and let go you’re able to breathe and have the time to experience the longevity and vibrancy of life.
Let me explain.
You could want to loosen up and let go but something stops you.
Working as a volunteer, I inform relaxation by the bedside to heart, stroke and cancer patients in hospitals.
I noticed that there has been a myth that has been stopping people from loosening up and letting go. The myth is that relaxation music is from the outside.
Here is an example of what I mean.
One older gentleman who had had a stroke told me that in the past (when he has been much young ) he had found relaxation by pleasing his dad. This desire made him forsake his own family because to please his dad, he has been always attempting to vary the world. Changing the world meant that he got his dad’s approval.
When his dad finally acknowledged his endeavor (giving him a pat on the back) he felt relaxed. Now after having a stroke at the age of 67 he has decided it has been time to spend some time with his own family.
It took a stroke for this gentleman to become aware that his relaxation music has been within him. He is now more aware of the need to breathe and have time to experience the longevity and vibrancy of life.
Relaxation Music is part of your environment (Classical music, the a lot of sounds of nature and your preferred music). It is a part of you.
One exercise you could contemplate would be to decide to allow relaxation music in on a daily basis. When you decide to loosen up and let go so that relaxation music could come into you, you will furthermore offer the music within you a occasion to play with music of a similar resonance. This resonance will now allow you to breathe and have time to experience the longevity and vibrancy of life.
In conclusion:
Relaxation music is always available. Nonetheless, your busy lifestyle, combined with the myth that relaxation music is from the outside, make it near impossible to loosen up and let go.
If you were to contemplate letting in relaxation music whenever you notice the feeling of the sounds on a daily basis, then you will find it easier to loosen up, let go, breathe and have time to experience the longevity and vibrancy of life.
